About This Station
This station is located in Farmingville, NY -- approximately 1/2 mile east of Suffolk County Community College in Selden, NY. The station itself is a Davis Vantage Pro 2, which has also been equipped with a Davis solar radiation sensor to provide current sky conditions during the daytime hours - as well as a Davis UV sensor, which makes the station a Vantage Pro 2 Plus. Station data is collected and uploaded to the website every 5 seconds by a software package that runs under Windows. This station employs a 24-hour fan-aspirated radiation shield over the temperature and humidity sensors to ensure the most accurate reading is presented. The station is comprised of an anemometer, a rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in the best possible position for this particular location for highest accuracy possible.
The "Local Farmingville Forecast" is generated here, utilizing the forecasting package WXSIM Professional. Additionally, the National Weather Service forecast for NWS Zone NYZ078 (Northwest Suffolk County, NY) is provided under the "NWS Forecast" link.
All software for uploading data and generating forecast data on this website is run on a custom-built PC. The current specifications of the PC are an Intel Core i7-4771 CPU running at 3.5 GHz, 16GB RAM, and running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit version).
A Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is used for uploading data regularly to Weather Underground, using station ID KNYFARMI10. This hardware is also used for uploading data to the Citizen Weather Obeserver Program under station ID E3379. Quality metrics of observations at this station are available at this page.
